What are diaper leggings?

A diaper legging is a full-length knitted cotton bottom made to be worn over a diaper. The waist is elasticated and pulls straight on, with no buttons, no snaps and no drawstring anywhere on the garment. The seat is cut with a dropped crotch, which is the detail that separates it from an ordinary baby pant: the diaper sits inside the room the cut provides instead of stretching the garment out of shape, and the waistband lands above the diaper rather than gripping across it. Below the seat the leg tapers and finishes at a plain hemmed ankle. Retail buyers in India ask for it as a diaper legging or a diaper pant because the diaper is the thing the pattern is built around. It sells as the bottom half of an outfit, so it moves alongside tops rather than instead of them.

What does the pull-on waist and dropped crotch change for a parent?

They remove the two things that make a diaper change awkward. A buttoned or snapped bottom has to be opened and closed one-handed while the other hand holds the baby, and the fasteners sit exactly where the baby is being cleaned. This pant has none, so it comes down and goes back up in one motion. The dropped crotch means a fresh diaper does not have to be forced into a garment cut for a bare bottom, which is where a tight baby pant either rides up or leaves a red mark at the waist. Nothing hard presses against the skin when the baby is lying on its back, and there is nothing on the garment to come loose in a wash load. For a shop, that is the sentence that closes the sale to a parent holding two options.

Why does 60s bio-washed combed cotton interlock matter on a garment worn daily?

Because a baby bottom is washed more often than anything else in the wardrobe, and the fabric spec decides whether it survives that. The yarn is 60s, a finer count than the 40s used on heavier styles, which is why the fabric sits light against the leg. Combing removes the short fibres before spinning, and short fibres are what work loose and pill after repeated washing. Interlock is a double-knit construction where two layers of loops lock into each other, so both faces finish smooth and the edges do not curl the way single jersey does at a hem. The bio-wash is an enzyme finish applied after knitting that clears the surface fuzz, which is what a parent registers as softness when they run a hand over the garment in the shop. At 160 to 170 GSM the fabric stays light enough for Indian summer daytime while still holding its shape over a diaper.

How does a pack of 12 with four pieces per size work in a shop?

It covers the whole first year in one pack. Each pack is 12 pieces, four each in Small, Medium and Large, across three colours: pink, yellow and light blue. Small fits 0 to 3 months, Medium 3 to 6, Large 6 to 12, so a single pack answers every customer who walks in with a baby under a year old rather than only the newborn ones. That matters more on a bottom than on a top, because a parent buying a legging is buying to fit now and will not take a size up to grow into the way they will with a jhabla. Four pieces per size is enough to keep one on display and three on the shelf, and enough to read which size moves in your market before you go deeper. Against the store minimum order value of Rs. 2,000 the pack is small enough to add to an order built around tops and sets.

What margin does a diaper legging carry and where does it sell?

Retailer markup runs 80 to 120 percent, in line with the rest of the knitted baby range at this weight. The margin on one piece is not the reason to stock it. A legging is an add-on: it goes into a basket that already holds a top, a bodysuit or a set, and it lifts the value of a sale the customer had already decided to make. That is the position it earns on the shelf, next to the tops rather than in a bottoms section of its own. It also covers the gap in most baby shops, which carry plenty of upper-body stock and very little below the waist.
