This is a newborn strap top and shorts set we cut and sewed at our Tiruppur unit: narrow double straps over each shoulder, a top that pulls on with no fastening, and plain shorts, all from solid dyed 40s combed cotton interlock at 180 to 190 GSM. Each colour carried its own character and slogan print on the chest. A brand can have it made in its own colours and artwork from 150 pieces per colour.

How is this strap top made?

Four parts decide how it wears and how it looks on your product page:

  • Straps. Two narrow straps run over each shoulder, so the weight of the top hangs from the shoulders. Interlock does not curl at a cut edge the way single jersey does, which keeps narrow straps flat after washing.
  • Fit. There is no placket, button or snap. The top goes on over the head, which keeps the front clean.
  • Chest. With no placket down the middle, the whole front panel is free for artwork, so a slogan can run wider than it could on a button-front top.
  • Shorts. Plain, dyed in the same colour as the top, so top and shorts match in a product photo.

What should a brand decide before the sample?

  1. Fabric and weight. Combed or semi-combed cotton interlock, and the GSM. We source the fabric to your spec, so the feel is your choice rather than a house fabric.
  2. Chest artwork. The slogan or character, its size and its colours. You supply the artwork; we do not write slogans or design prints.
  3. Label. Printed inside the back, as on this top, or a woven label from a label maker.
  4. Trims and packaging. Labels, tags, polybags and boxes are bought from trim makers who set their own minimums, and each appears as its own line on the quote. Printed labels made per piece avoid those minimums, and you may supply your own trims. Leftover trims are handed to you.
  5. Colours and quantity. 150 pieces per colour is the minimum, on solid dyed fabric with a chest print.

What should you check on the strap top sample?

  • Pull each strap gently where it meets the body: the join should hold with no stitching opening.
  • Put the top on a flat surface: the neckline should sit evenly, with both straps the same length.
  • Check the chest print sits below the neckline and centred on the front panel.
  • Lay the shorts beside the top: the dyed colour should match.
